Over the years, I've produced many monotypes -- a great many complete, some in need of additional work, and a few failures. These last two categories provided me with the materials for this show. I have given new life to the also-rans and duds by cutting and fitting them into new images. Unlike a collage, where pieces are pasted on top of each other, all of the elements in these pictures have been cut out and fitted to form a flat surface. In order to make the elements fit snugly, they must be stacked and cut through at the same time. This technique has the side benefit of producing an additional negative version of the element. Throughout this show you can see where I used the second cut shape in a different composition.
