Squash
September - October 1991
The Nut Tree Gallery, Vacaville, CA

James McNair, the famous cookbook writer, commissioned me to do artwork to be featured in the photography for his new squash cookbook. He would tell me what squash was to be featured in each day's recipe testing, then I would create pieces --occasionally right there in the photo studio (produce availability would sometimes necessitate recipe changes!). I was given free rein in making these vegetal portraits -- they just had to complement the food in the photos.

After the publication of the book I was asked to show the work at a relevant venue -- the (now sadly defunct) Nut Tree. It was located in in the fertile Sacramento Valley, where most of the squash models were raised.
