Souvenirs of Japan In 1986, after I started making prints again, my wife and I took a trip to Japan. Upon returning, I wanted to make a series of prints that would not only show the various wonderful memories of our trip but would challenge me as a printmaker as well. Each of these prints, with their variety of techniques (hard and soft grounds, aquatint, metal and paper relief plates, chine collé, a la poupeé and viscosity inkings, embossing) were put through the press only once - making for a gratifying result but a tedious job of printing. Now I can think of many ways that I would simplify the process. Ah, experience...!
